Welcome To The Home of Fibromyalgia!
As a suffer of Fibromyalgia myself, I wanted my first post to describe the condition and help people understand what it can do to you. First, we start with a description of Fibromyalgia from The Mayo Clinic:
“You hurt all over, and you frequently feel exhausted. Even after numerous tests, your doctor can’t find anything specifically wrong with you. If this sounds familiar, you may have fibromyalgia.
Fibromyalgia is a chronic condition characterized by widespread pain in your muscles, ligaments and tendons, as well as fatigue and multiple tender points — places on your body where slight pressure causes pain. Fibromyalgia is more common in women than in men. Previously, fibromyalgia was known by other names such as fibrositis, chronic muscle pain syndrome, psychogenic rheumatism and tension myalgias.
Although the intensity of your symptoms may vary, they’ll probably never disappear completely. It may be reassuring to know, however, that fibromyalgia isn’t progressive or life-threatening. Treatments and self-care steps can improve fibromyalgia symptoms and your general health.”
This is the bare bones of fibromyalgia. From personal experience I can tell you that fibromyalgia can reduce the quality of life, make your loved ones miserable and make you miserable. How much can you whine about your pain without people getting tired of hearing about it? So, a lot of the time you keep the pain to yourself and try to get on with the day.
The pain - I try to describe it as it’s like I have the flu every day. It is not necessarily pain per se, but a deep ache in your joints and muscles. So to me I cannot rate it on a pain scale.
I have been suffering from fibromyalgia now for years but it has only gotten extremely severe in the last year or so. Severe enough where I take medication for it.
I wanted to create this blog so that we could talk about it with each other, share our thoughts on treatments and medications, provide current news about treatment and also, I wanted to have a place to whine if you feel bad! I will also be posting about jobs you can do at home while you suffer from fibromyalgia and the best ones that are flexible enough around the bad days. I welcome you to comment and share. Some days I will post more that once depending on what I find or how I feel. SHARE WITH US PLEASE!! Every resource we have to help us deal with this disease will help not only ourselves but others who are also suffering.
